iCount Seeks to Increase Citizen Involvement in Politics
Online Polls Show How Few Americans Donate Money to Political Campaigns and Causes
Provo, UT (PRWEB) July 31, 2004 --- iCount.com, a fresh, non-partisan political networking website for all Americans, announced the results of its first online poll today.
iCount.com reports that nearly 43% of its users have never donated money to a political campaign or organization. Slightly more than 5% have donated more than $1,000 to a political cause.
These survey results, combined with the decreasing voter turnout during the past 40 years, make clear that the average American has little involvement in politics and government.
A steady decline in voter turnout over the past several decades reflects the increasing apathy or disgust with which Americans view politics," said Dan Taggart, co-founder of iCount.com. Most citizens dont donate money to political campaigns and many dont vote either."
Phil Windley, another iCount.com founder and well-known blogger said, Were determined to re-energize democracy in America by giving ordinary people a voice by creating powerful tools so that their collective voices can be heard."
Joe Trippi, former manager of the Dean for America campaign and author of The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, claims in his book that 70% of Americans are unhappy with both parties.

iCount.coms founders believe that the Internet empowers Americans to connect with other Americans and change their world by publicly sharing their opinions on issues and then banding together with other Americans who feel the same way they do.
The site, launched earlier this month, has already attracted thousands of registered users.
The site allows users to answer several political questions and provides them with a political profile, which they can compare with George W. Bush, John Kerry, or other iCount members.
We want people to know that they can be involved in the political process and iCounts major goal is to provide a way for people to get more involved in politics and understand their personal political positions," said Windley.
About iCount
iCount.com empowers individual Americans to use the internet to share their opinions and to connect with like-minded individuals. Unlike most political web sites which seek to raise money in order to broadcast a single point of view, iCount is an online empowerment zone where citizens can use technology to gain more knowledge, share their beliefs and values, and join with others to fight for causes in which they believe. iCount is a privately funded company based in Utah. It was founded in 2004 by Internet entrepreneurs Phil Windley, Dan Taggart and Paul Allen.
