BOSTON, MA (PRWEB) August 1, 2004 -- Bostons Bridges, written by Boston native Yanni Tsipis, is the latest edition in Arcadia Publishings Images of America Series. The book explains that the abundance of rivers and ocean inlets around the city required Bostonians to build more bridges per acre of city land than any other American city.
Bostons Bridges includes a large collection of previously unpublished photographs, drawn from diverse sources including the Massachusetts Department of Public Works and Boston city archives, providing an array of visuals to complement Yanni Tsipis expert historical input. Tsipis details the evolution in design, materials, and construction techniques from the 1700s to the present. With authority and painstaking detail, Tsipis recounts the story of each bridge that spans the city.
Yanni Tsipis, 25, a Boston native, holds degrees in urban planning and civil engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and is the author of four books documenting the history of Bostons highways and bridges. Tsipis works as a development project manager at Meredith & Grew, a major real estate firm based in Boston. Tsipis, a Beacon Hill resident, chairs the editorial board of Civil Engineering Practice, the journal of the Boston Society of Civil Engineers. In addition to lecturing frequently on the history of Bostons physical infrastructure, Tsipis is an instructor at the MIT Center for Real Estate and enjoys running, hiking, and outdoor activities.
