Carnetts Car Washes are a Step Ahead of Water Restrictions in Georgia

Although mandantory, permenant water restrictions will go into effect August 1st in Georgia, Carnett's Car Washes developed their business with the environment in mind. For Carnett's, saving water is nothing new.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) August 1, 2004 -- Carnetts Car Washes offers Atlanta citizens an alternative as mandatory permanent water restrictions go into effect this Sunday. While water restrictions may be focused on petunias and impatients, there are also limits on car washing and window cleaning.

Carnetts Car Washes developed their 13 Atlanta-area locations with the environment in mind. Many of these car washes have their own water filtration plant capturing and recycling millions of gallons of water annually and preventing water run off. Despite common perception, our professional car washing locations strive to protect the environment through water recycling," said Dee Arnett, Vice President of Carnetts Car Washes. In fact, a person uses more water taking a shower than we use washing one car," she continued.

But not all professional car washes are created equal. Some car washes, including the drive-thru tunnel washes of some locations, use more water, do not protect from run off and do not recycle. Carnetts Car Washes manages monthly water reports to maintain high levels of water conservation and protect storm water by not discharging soaps into the street.

As water restrictions become a focus, some have concerns for the many charitable organizations that use parking lot car washes to raise funds. These events may face challenges by the new state-mandated regulations but they are also one of the most threatening and widespread contaminates of storm water.

In addition to state water restrictions, there are also federal regulations in place limiting the amount of storm water runoff. Many people are unaware of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NSDES) that was established to ban any surface water other than rain from being discharged into a storm sewer.

Carnetts Car Washes hopes to eliminate these concerns through their Helping Hands program. Each year, this long-standing program helps community organizations raise hundreds of thousands of dollars without ever having to pick up a sponge. Carnetts does the work. Through the selling of car wash coupons, organizations receive 50% of the proceeds. We want to see organizations prosper, but we are also serious about protecting our lakes, rivers and streams, said Ms. Arnett. Our Helping Hands Program can achieve both," she continued.
