Harris, was a featured presenter at the Human Performance, Root Cause and Trending (HPRCT) Conference held in Savannah, Georgia. As part of an esteemed group of over 20 utilities and energy-related companies representatives presenting at the conference, including the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Institute for Nuclear Power Operations, Mr. Harris, a Six Sigma Black Belt who has applied Six Sigma techniques at several nuclear suppliers, covered the application of Six Sigma process, nuclear related successes using Six Sigma, personnel, resources and basic elements required for successful implementation of projects and programs. Information on application process levels, metrics, Six Sigma improvement methodology and related tools rounded out his presentation and provided the audience with a well rounded, thought provoking view into Quality implementation for the Nuclear Energy segment.
Sponsored by The Southern Company, the third largest nuclear utility in the US, the HPRCT conference provided a national meeting place and opportunities for idea exchange for nearly 200 experts in human performance, root cause and trending. Issues covered during the four-day conference included the use of operating experience, improving root cause analysis, improving organizational effectiveness, legal issues, human and management development, and methods for systematic trending for performance improvement. Other presentations on Design for Six Sigma and Lean Enterprise approaches were also offered to further educate conference attendees on Quality related industry issues.
Mr. Harris, a twenty-five year veteran of the nuclear industry, has consulted to or performed engineering, licensing, quality control and assurance, operations, spent fuel transportation and storage, and plant maintenance activities at nearly 70% of nuclear plant sites in the US. His professional experience spans various positions at Westinghouse Electric, Institute for Nuclear Power Operations and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Recently appointed to three American Nuclear Society (ANS) national committees and new Chairman of the ANS Section in Metro Atlanta, Mr. Harris also sits on the Division Councils for the American Society for Quality (ASQ) Environmental and Energy Divisions and Construction Divisions. He was Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) certified by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Westinghouse Electric Corporation. His educational credentials include a BS in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Virginia, a MS in Technology Management and MS in Quality.
