(PRWEB) August 3, 2004 -- The Houston based Black and Single magazine, founded almost 2 years ago has grown from a quarterly, circulation of 10,000 to a bi-monthly publication distributing 15,000 issues citywide and subscriptions nationwide. This slick, full color, 56-page magazine continues to provide interesting contemporary topics, controversial dialogue, and editorial content, which educates and motivates its readership. Black and Single magazine highlights the positive contributions of African American Singles.

The Sunday Singles mixer is free and open to single men and women. The Improv Comedy Club, located at the MarqE Entertainment Center on the Katy Freeway, will provide a venue for Black and Singles readership to meet discriminating individuals in a lavish setting. The Speed dating, a part of the Sunday Singles mixers, will only take place on those Sundays where the comedians are African American. The first Sunday Single mixer is scheduled for August 15, 2004. The Speed dating will begin promptly at 7:00 pm and participants are asked to email info @ blackandsinglemag.com prior to the event to reserve their space. After the mixer, participants will have the opportunity to see the very funny, Tommy Davidson, from In living Color" fame, The Proud Family," a popular Disney cartoon, and Woo" a feature film where he co-starred with Jada Pinkett-Smith. The Improv will extend 2 for 1 tickets to those who mention Black and Single magazine.

Black and Single magazine looks forward to teaming up with the Improv Comedy Club to bring more African Americans to the popular comedy spot. According to the Publisher and Founder, Lynn Jones,I was really excited when the Improv asked us to host a Singles night! I love the venue, love the location and the talent that they have brought in has been exceptional." Speed dating events have grown across the country but are very limited for the African American single community usually because of the high cost to participate or the lack of minorities showing up. Our readership is hungry to meet other singles within their community and this Sunday Single mixer along with the speed dating will allow that and it wont cost a dime to participate," says Jones.

The Single Sunday Mixers are presently scheduled for August 15, 2004- Tommy Davidson, September 5- Bill Bellamy and October 5- Paul Mooney. The Speed dating will always begin an hour before each show and food and drink specials are also extended on Mixer nights. For more information on scheduled appearances visit www. improv.com.

Black & Single magazine which has dealt with topics such as The Down low Man," HIV/AIDS," Churchin and Clubbin," Domestic Violence," The Black Wall Street" and Swinging Singles" is uniquely distributed to barber and beauty shops, restaurants and small businesses, patronized by their target demographic. Black and Single magazine prides itself on the fact that a large majority of the articles in the publication are written by the readers, the premise-a readers digest type format. The subscription base is also on the rise as a result of local and out of state requests, and Black and Single magazine has revamped its website ( www. blackandsinglemag.com) to compliment the demand. Readers can now go to the archives on the site to pull up past popular feature articles. The free publication is advertisement driven and invites business owners to visit them online for their very reasonable advertisement pricing. According to Jones, "Black and Single magazine is tapping into a niche market. The black single now has a voice and corporate America has a publication where they can reach a captive consumer market to promote their products and services." With an estimated readership of 45,000, Black and Single magazine will continue to grow as it continues to do what it promises...delight its readers.
