Color Me Arnold: the Unofficial Arnold Schwarzenegger Coloring and Activity Book offers a Satirical Send-up of Goofs and Gaffes by Movie Star / California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
San Francisco's Manic D Press announces the publication of Color Me Arnold: the Unofficial Arnold Schwarzenegger Coloring and Activity Book, a uniquely drawn satirical send-up of goofs and gaffes by movie star / California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) August 4, 2004 -- Since his campaign for Governor of California, actor Arnold Schwarzenegger has endured many critics and criticisms. None, however, have been as outrageous and original as the newest poke at Californias colorful governor: Color Me Arnold, an unusually hilarious interactive coloring book for adults.
Readers can connect the dots to find Arnold groping a nearby female, draw a picture of themselves between Arnold and George W. Bush, color in the governor as "Conan the Barbarian", drive a Hummer through a maze from Hollywood to Sacramento, and more.
Created by Santa Barbara artists Conor Buckley and Lawrence Gipe, Color Me Arnold offers 128 pages of pointed ridicule, hilarity, and political satire inspired by the governors own words and actions - resulting in an uproarious and provocative perspective on the man, the office, and our political process.
"What makes this book compelling is the unique presentation of the idea that being a film celebrity does not qualify one to govern the most populous state in the U.S. (33,871,648 people according to the 2000 census)," says Manic D Press publisher Jennifer Joseph. "Readers have a chance to see the personal opinions and dubious achievements of the unqualified Republican movie star they elected governor in one easy-to-swallow dose of humorous satire."
Creators Buckley and Gipe capture this spirit of questioning and condemnation with a unique twist on political art and commentary. "It uses the vernacular of coloring and activity books - the first visual and interactive culture that many children will encounter - as a basis for parody," says Gipe. "It re-contextualizes the silliest of our governor's quotes ("I think that gay marriage should be between a man and a woman") into the juvenile setting they deserve."
Co-creator Buckley reiterates the importance of these quotes in providing a humorous, yet almost frightening look into the psyche of the voting majority. "The book pretty much wrote itself," says Buckley. "Arnold has said and done lots of stupid things, and we, as Californians, elected him regardless."
About the Authors: Lawrence Gipe, an art instructor at UC Santa Barbara, has had solo exhibitions of his paintings in New York, San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, and throughout Germany. Gipes work is in the permanent collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Brooklyn Museum. Mentions of Gipes works have appeared in Vanity Fair, The New York Times Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, and Art in America, among other publications.
Conor Buckley recently graduated from University of California at Santa Barbara with a degree in studio art and illustration. While a student, Buckley worked at the UCSB paper as an illustrator/cartoonist and art director. While citing many styles and subject matters as inspiration, much of his artwork remains politically charged.
