Very few recording artists, whether they are on major or indie labels, have the opportunity to achieve what The G-Man has accomplished with Verizon Wireless: in a rare, late-night recording session, he was voiceover talent and producer of four 60-second radio commercials, then mixed the final versions utilizing his original production music tracks.
The spots, all airing in major East Coast markets, are part of the ongoing Verizon Wireless campaign for the company that added nearly 5 million customers last year.
The G-Man is Scott G, owner of G-Man Music & Radical Radio, where he produces award-winning radio commercials and composes music for both radio and TV spots.
In a story that appeared on 200 Web sites this year, it was revealed that The G-Man made history by giving his music away on the Internet, encouraging P2P filesharing of his work, and even sending individual tracks to DJs and remixers so they could create new versions of his songs. This resulted in club play, airplay, an indie record deal, a publishing deal, and worldwide press attention.
His songs have been called "Moby meets Bowie" (by producer Pete Anderson), "Moby meets Devo" (by TV producer Paul Rich), and "The rhythm of machines with melodies of the heart" (by music writer Janis Amy).
The G-Man's albums are released by Delvian Records. GRIN GROOVE (2002), ELECTRO BOP (2003) and PLATINUM AGE OF THE REMIX (2004) have been hailed as sonic masterpieces by reviewers, and tracks are being played in clubs around the globe: Hollywood, Moscow, Paris, Amsterdam, Brazil, Spain, Australia, and more.
THE PLATINUM AGE OF THE REMIX features G-Man songs in dance/trance mixes by Matt Forger (Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney); F. Troy (Mortal Loom, "Blade" remixes); Random Distribution (who took a G-Man remix to #1 in Russia); DJ Insane (who took a G-Man remix to #5 on a European dance chart); and William Morosi (classically-trained jazz artist whose style has been called "George Duke on acid").
PLATINUM AGE is now in its third month in the top forty on the Masspool DJ Association Dance/Crossover Chart.
Scott is also a creative director of the National Association of Record Industry Professionals (NARIP) and writes about music for many organizations, including MusicDish.com, Los Angeles Music Productions, Los Angeles Music Network, and StudioExpresso.com.
