Art and Technology Merge In Baltimore Photographer's Website

Viewers can browse through each week for each month spanning the last 4 years of Goldbergs daily visual life. New features include an enhanced Flash navigation, a slideshow feature, photo book marking abilities and a comments section. By using Macromedias Flash technology combined with the programming language PHP and the database tool MySQL, Goldbergs site is simple to update and maintain.

BALTIMORE, MD (PRWEB) August 5, 2004 -- When Amy Goldberg hit a slump in her artistic process, she found a way to use technology to get her art back on track. While attending the Flash Forward conference and Flash film festival in 2000, Goldberg was shooting casually with her digital camera, just snapshots", in her opinion. She had not made work she considered to have any depth for several years, and had all but abandoned her darkroom. But when her friends got a look at the snapshots" contained on the camera -- they were blown away. A discussion ensued, which culminated in the project that has become www.amygoldberg.com.

Amy and her business partner Tracey Halvorsen run FastSpot, an interactive design studio in Baltimore Maryland. Together with their friend and co-worker Chris Styles, they built a website that allowed Goldberg to find the beauty in her snapshots", and share them with the world. Four years later, her site gets a technological and user interface facelift, but still presents the daily diary she embarked on back in 2000.

New features include an enhanced Flash navigation, a slideshow feature, photo book marking abilities and a comments section. By using Macromedias Flash technology combined with the programming language PHP and the database tool MySQL, Goldbergs site is simple to update and maintain. All she has to do is upload her images into a folder on her websites server, and a new week is added.

The site has resulted in Goldbergs work being shared with artists and photographers around the globe. If she misses a week, people start emailing making sure she is OK. And the ability to share these snapshots" into her life has opened up a whole new way of looking at art". Its no longer about making the perfect image that is totally planned out and says it all," says Golberg. Its about never stopping looking, recording, examining, and expressing myself -- that is what makes me feel like an artist".
