Dorsa Consulting Launches Internet Platform To Provide Pension Consumer Education

A pension administration support company has launched a new Internet platform to help companies educate their employees about their pension plan benefits.

Dorsa Consulting has launched MyPensionPlan.Info, a Web portal that will be used by companies to help them educate pension participants on their pension plan in a similar manner that 401(k) providers use the Web to educate their participants.

“We’ve been working on MyPensionPlan.Info for about two years now, and after spending a lot of time and resources on the project, we are excited that it is ready to unveil,” said John McCrary, CRA, CRC, principal and managing partner of Dorsa Consulting. “It provides companies that offer defined benefit plans to their employees with a tool that will help them promote their pension plans.”

With revenues in excess of $1.5 million, Dorsa Consulting currently provides pension plan administration support to more than 75 professional firms that represent more than 350 plans, as well as to more than 200 individual plan sponsors.

MyPensionPlan.Info’s interactive format allows pension participants to log on to their account 24-hours a day using a secure Web browser. Once pension participants have logged on, they can print their benefit statements, review projected benefit calculations, review their annual account statement and even calculate ‘on-the-fly’ their monthly estimated benefit if they retire at an early age. The platform also provides educational information on Social Security and a dictionary of pension fund terminology.

The platform was designed in partnership with StretchedOut Software, a Jacksonville, FL interactive development firm. The tech company wanted to make sure the platform would serve as a ‘visual extension’ of the sponsoring company’s corporate Web site.

“The platform was targeted for the average worker,” said Erik Ievins, vice president of StretchedOut Software. “The goal was to make the entire site feel easy to use, since otherwise it's just a fancy tool that sits on the shelf. Responses so far indicate we're meeting that goal quite nicely.”
