Themis Sotiropoulos Appointed to Institute of Management Accountants Information Technology Committee

Mr. Themis Sotiropoulos CMA CPA MBA, a Senior Consultant for IBM Business Consulting Services, has been appointed to the Information Technology Committee of The Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), the worlds leading professional association devoted exclusively to advancing the managerial finance and accounting profession.

(PRWEB) August 7, 2004 -- IMAs Information Technology Committee identifies emerging and current technologies that impact management accountants and financial management. Its purpose is to help position management accountants and financial managers as change agents in applying technology to business processes. In addition, the committee seeks innovative ways for IMA to communicate and promote new technologies to its members, chapters, councils, standing committees and third parties. The Information Technology Committee is comprised of 10 members, and will meet throughout IMAs 2004/2005 fiscal year.

IMAs committees are the back-bone of the association, helping to shape the future of both IMA and the managerial accounting and finance profession through development of products and services that positively impact our members, the profession, and society as a whole," said Paul A. Sharman, interim executive director of IMA. The committee structure is mutually beneficial. It provides our members leadership experience and powerful networking opportunities with other committed IMA members, while allowing IMA leadership to tap into the expertise of highly qualified and experienced professionals for a timely and accurate view of the professions landscape."

IMAs committees address issues ranging from the future of the profession and raising professional standards, to IMA organizational oversight. For example, IMAs Financial Reporting Committee helps shape the future of the profession by regularly commenting to standard-setting bodies such as the FASB, GASB, AICPA, and the SEC, among others, on proposed standards and other crucial industry matters, and by proactively bringing relevant issues and suggested solutions to the attention of these standard-setting bodies. Other IMA standing committees include: Academic Relations, Board of Regents, Ethics, Finance, Information Technology, Management Accounting Committee/Foundation for Applied Research, Member Interest Groups, Member Services, Professional Development, Strategic Planning, Students.

IMA is Rebalancing the Accountancy Profession. Recent industry changes and legislation have provided IMA an historic opportunity to make a significant contribution to business around the globe. IMA is helping rebalance the accountancy profession by enhancing the role of todays managerial finance and accounting professionals inside organizations. IMA is seizing this opportunity by providing professionals with the skills and resources to create value by building quality financial practices into their organizations -- instead of relying on external audit to inspect quality in", a widespread practice prior to the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. By developing a significant group of professionals who are also properly qualified to drive ethical and responsible corporate governance and decision support, planning and control over value-creating operations from inside their organizations, IMA is helping to position managerial finance and accounting professionals at the forefront of business decisions.
