KUA Honored with Three Statewide PR Awards

The Florida Public Relations Association honored the utility's 2004 calendar of energy conservation and 2002 annual report.

KISSIMMEE, FL (PRWEB) August 13, 2004 -- Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) on Tuesday evening took home three awards in the Florida Public Relations Association's (FPRA) annual awards for the best public relations programs and tactics in the state.

The industry association honored KUA's 2004 calendar of energy conservation with a judges' award and a Golden Image Award, FPRA's highest category recognition. KUA's 2002 annual report received an award of distinction.

"As a Golden Image Award winner, KUA has again been recognized by its peers in the public relations industry to have met the highest standards of performance," said Chris Gent, KUA's manager of corporate communications. "We are extremely proud of our ongoing efforts to educate our customers."

KUA's calendar is part of an ongoing effort to increase public awareness of energy conservation. The calendar featured the artwork of third, fourth and fifth grade students in Osceola County. This year's contest drew a record 575 student entries, representing 23 Osceola County public, private and charter schools.

The utility's annual report -- titled "The Power of U" -- featured a financial summary of 2002 as well as a four-chapter narrative on the utility's core business of delivering efficient, reliable, affordable electric service to the residents of Osceola County. The report also featured interviews and photos of community leaders and area business owners.

The awards were presented August 10 at FPRA's 66th annual conference in St. Petersburg.

Since 1995, KUA has won 160 international, national and regional public relations awards in such categories as public affairs, crisis communications, community relations, product introduction, employee communications and other communications specialty areas.

Founded in 1901, KUA (www.kua.com) is Florida's sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric, water, and telecommunication services to 170,000 residents in five Central Florida counties.
