(PRWEB) August 13, 2004 -- The Bon Secours Sleep Disorder Institute at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY has been accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) for a period of five years, announced Michael Schnieders, Executive Vice President and Administrator of Good Samaritan Hospital. The accreditation reflects the Sleep Centers ability to effectively meet the extensive requirements set by the AASM for exceptional sleep disorder facilities. The AASM is a professional membership organization that is dedicated to the advancement of sleep medicine and related research in this field.
The AASM is committed to ensuring that those in the field of sleep medicine are held to the highest of standards, provide excellent healthcare and enhance the awareness of sleep as an important component for heath, public safety and quality of life.
We are pleased that the excellent work of the Sleep Center has been recognized by the AASM in granting this accreditation," said Schnieders, who noted that Good Samaritan is not only the only accredited sleep center in Rockland County, but the only accredited Sleep Center west of the Hudson River between Albany and the New Jersey State border. The Sleep Center is one of many Centers of Excellence at Good Samaritan that make a real and demonstrable difference in the health and well-being of our community."
The sleep center at Good Samaritan Hospital first opened its doors in October of 2001. Since then, the center has dedicated itself to meeting and exceeding the AASMs high standards by encompassing comprehensive services in sleep medicine, including specialists in pulmonology, neurology, otolaryngology, psychology, dentistry, oral-maxillo-facial surgery and bariatric surgery. The sleep facility is equipped with state-of-the art monitoring systems and is decorated in a comfortable, home-like setting.
Accreditation is a voluntary process, but one that demonstrates a facilitys commitment to excellence as defined within the accreditation requirements developed by the AASM. These requirements are continuously reviewed and updated to make sure the latest advances in sleep medicine are incorporated into a facilitys evaluations and treatments.
Receiving accreditation validates foremost, the hard work and dedication of our technical and administrative staff, as well as the clinical acumen of our sleep specialists," stated Dr. Jack Horng, Director of the Bon Secours Sleep Disorder Institute at Good Samaritan Hospital. I expect that these standards will be adopted, promoted and enforced in all sleep centers in the future. This accreditation positions Good Samaritan squarely ahead of others in this field.
Although accreditation is a voluntary process, the accreditation requirements set in place by the AASM represent good sleep medicine care compared to the more commercialized facilities," concluded Dr. Horng.
The Sleep center at GSH offers evaluation and treatments for a comprehensive array of sleep related problems, such as sleep apnea syndrome, insomnia, narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome and pediatric sleep disorders including circadian rhythm disorders and sleep walking.
The Bon Secours Sleep Disorder Institute at Good Samaritan Hospital will continue to grow and offer expanded diagnostic and clinical services within the greater Rockland County community. Physician and self-referrals are both welcome. The Sleep Center can be reached at 845-368-5512.
