IHRIM and its Heart of America chapter presents an intensive, one-day learning experience, Monday, September 20 at the Sprint facilities in Overland Park, (Kansas City) Kansas. Decision-makers for HR IT initiatives -- CEO, CFO, CIO, VP HR, VP Sales/Marketing, VP IT, and other managers or executives involved in recommending or approving IT initiatives should attend. And, the course is also highly relevant to providers and managers responsible for intranet solutions.

How to Build a Compelling Business Case..." begins with a discussion of the need for justifying HR initiatives in business terms. This includes an overview to establish a common definition of "What exactly is a Business Case?" Seven major components of a business case will be examined and each will be discussed in detail. Examples of these business case components and templates will be provided for use back home. Different approaches to developing and presenting business case will be explained and evaluated. The 10 Steps in delivering the business case for maximum success will be explained, and teams will work with a case study to practice these principles delivering their results in presentations to the class.

Practical examples of critical success factors, metrics and benefits achieved will be presented through case studies of companies that have implemented different justification solutions. The session will conclude with a brief overview of the strategic and tactical (e.g. change management, logistics) issues to consider when designing the business case to support eventual implementation of the solution. The session will be conducted using group exercises, team discussions/report-outs, and other interactive activities to gain practical experience with the material content presented in lecturettes and handouts. Each attendee will benefit through:
·   Understanding of how, and practice with developing a compelling justification for an HRIT project;
·   Identification and definition of the key components of a business case;
·   Framework and practice in building a business case and measuring ROI;
·   Understanding of the 10 key steps in implementing a business case; and,
·   Case studies and examples.
