America Meets Africa
Modesto nonprofit group proves valuable to starving Liberian communities
(PRWEB) August 14, 2004 -- On August 21, a major fund-raiser will be held in Tracy at the Masonic Temple (1601 N. Tracy Blvd.) and is sponsored by Relief Inc. (an abbreviation of Remember Every Liberian Influences Enduring Freedom) Its purpose is to raise the funds to ship already collected materials to Liberia, West Africa. A fashion show will be the highlight of the event, with top-of-the-line articles directly from Liberia. The Liberia Traditional Fabric Womens Association has supported this effort as a way to create awareness of Liberias cultural heritage. Unique and brightly colored garments made of country cloth will undoubtedly start a new American fashion trend.
The event is from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Dinner will be served (chicken & Tri-Tip). There will be a no-host bar, live and silent auctions. The charge is only $25 for a fun packed evening. Contributions are tax deductible. For information and tickets contact Phoebe Dennis-Fortt at 209-595-1700 or go to www.liberiarelief.com.
No more wish I could help". Non-profit Relief Inc., brings together many Bay Area communities in an effort to send clothes, medical supplies and food to a country desperately in need. Thousands of children go without food, shelter, and clothing. The hospital in Kakata uses a lantern to sterize utensils. Conditions are primative at best. They do have a van to help transport goods but will need a truck to take them all up country. The Relief Inc. in-country group is an established and trustworthy organization founded and maintained by Liberians. There is a secure and guarded headquarters in Monrovia. This well organized and productive group has already raised goods to fill a 40-foot shipping container. Contributions by Toyota toward a truck and medicine from Johnson and Johnson show the good faith efforts of the American business community. Now funds to get the goods overseas are desperately needed. The thousands of starving children and adults are anxious for its arrival.
