Lone Worker safety improved by enhanced features on TaitNet TN1100 trunked radio system

Tait Electronics have introduced an enhanced version of their TaitNet TN1100 single-site, eight channel, trunked radio system; which expands options for group calling & control and adds remote configuration facilities

Huntingdon, UK (PRWEB) August 16, 2004 -- Tait Electronics have introduced an enhanced version of their TaitNet TN1100 single-site, eight channel, trunked radio system; which expands options for group calling & control and adds remote configuration facilities.

These enhancements have enabled Tait to add a novel lone worker monitoring facility to the TN1100 which improves the safety of staff working on their own in remote or hazardous environments. Each user protected by the system must respond to audio tones generated by their radio to confirm their safety. If they fail to respond the radio will ring continuously, if there is still no response an emergency call is sent to all radios on the network.

While most Lone Worker features are activated by a timer in the user's radio, the TN1100 facility is managed by the infrastructure. The TN1100 system maintains a timer for each protected radio. At predetermined times; the system sends a signal to each radio to activate the audio tone. If there is no response, a second signal is sent to make the radio ring continuously, before finally, the alarm is raised.

This is an important difference," says TaitNet Product Manager, John Billows. There are many instances where an alarm is more likely to be activated by an infrastructure-based Lone Worker facility."

He continued; With this centralised approach, if the radio is damaged in a fall, submerged in water, or a person is hijacked and taken out of the coverage area, then the system is made aware and an alarm will be raised. Timer based systems located with the worker's radio would not raise an alarm in these scenarios."

The TN1100 now also incorporates the following network management features:
ALLI calls
ALLI calls capture the entire radio population for BROADCAST Calling. This feature can interrupt all calls on the system to ensure Broadcast to all users.

All user calling
One specific group id" can now be defined which, when called, initiates a call setup procedure exactly like the ALLI call described above except that it is a non-BROADCAST call in which all parties can communicate.

Control channel rotation
Rotation of the control channel, if enabled, now makes use of MOVE messages to make the operation completely transparent to the radio terminals.

Remote configuration
The contents of the Channel Module user barring table, and the Line Module network operator number and abbreviated dialing table, can be edited remotely by DTMF command via the normal landline connection to the Line Module.

Queuing for busy group users
If a user calls a busy group, the caller will either be amalgamated into the current group call or will be queued, dependant on the state of this parameter.

Search for user in active group calls
The system will now search active group calls for individuals. This means that when a user calls an individual who is involved in a group call, the caller will be queued. This gives a positive improvement in the success rate of individual calling.

Group call GTC scheduling
Go To Channel messages for group calls are now sent in two batches of two messages each, the batches separated by 10 slots (just over 1 second). This results in an improvement in group call setup reliability in marginal signal conditions.

French SYNC/SYNT
The French PAA 2424 spec SYNC/SYNT values are now supported.

Firmware reflashing
The 18F452 processors are capable of reflashing their own program memory. Reflashing requires the windows Flashloader utility program and the standard T1810 programming lead, along with a disk file for the required firmware issue.
