Web Accessibility for the Web Hosting Industry. Widerweb, a new revenue and service opportunity announced by Moore Innovations Ltd.
WiderWeb is a new service and revenue opportunity for web hosting companies. It enables web hosts for the first time to aid customers in making their web sites compliant with accessibility legislation.
The WiderWeb web accessibility gateway provides an automated transcoding function to change a standard web site into a W3C accessible version, on a per user request basis with full session control. It also allows users to customise the gateway controls so that sites are delivered in a truly personalised fashion.
(PRWEB) August 17, 2004 -- The UK's Disability Discrimination Act requires that all web sites are made accessible to people with disabilities, for which the W3C standards body has issued clear deployment guidelines. Unfortunately these are poorly understood and costly to implement so compliance has fallen well short of acceptable. To ease this problem the WiderWeb accessibility gateway has been developed.
The WiderWeb system works by web site owners placing a link from their home page redirecting disabled users to their site through the gateway. The gateway then makes the request on the users behalf and translates it into an accessible version before delivering the page back to the user. Subsequent page requests in the session are then automatically directed through the gateway.
Web site owners both large and small are now required by law to address the accessibility problem. With the introduction of the WiderWeb service this can now be aided by the web hosting industry itself. Moore Innovations now announces a version of WiderWeb to be run by web hosting companies themselves. The setup is simple with a minimum of resources and administration can then be completely automated.
WiderWeb provides web hosters with a new revenue opportunity, offering a simple solution for a complex problem to existing clients. It helps resolve a clear legal requirement while providing a valuable service to the disabled community.
