A Simple Plan? Novelist Joe Rendace thinks so.
Following in the path of acclaimed author Scott Smith (A Simple Plan; Random House), author Joe Rendace (Justification; 2002) has taken it upon himself to adapt his psychological thriller.
(PRWEB) August 18, 2004 -- Similar to the main character in Justification, the adaptation process nearly drove Rendace to the edge of his sanity. During a television interview, a question was posed about how his wife was able to sleep in his bed at night after reading the novel. Rendace replied, The same way Dean Kootz and Steven Kings wife sleep, cheek to cheek."
Finding it almost impossible to remain true to the 400+ pages of psychological mind games, it was the inevitable compromise of slashing subplots and focusing on key individuals that enabled the story to fit into a taunt 96 pages. The result has been received with high praise. Choosing not to option his cult classic has proved to be the right move, and his efforts havent gone unnoticed. Having cut ties with his agent, the script has quickly passed through Francis Ford Coppala's studio as well as another Hollywood hot house.
The second book in the trilogy,(Perspective), has been completed. The story shifts its focus onto Tony Adonis, the standout master thief from Justification. Carrying over a handful of characters from the first book enabled the story to grow into a multitude of directions that will conclude with a bang in the final novel. Oddly, Rendace chose to pen the action thriller in both novel and script form before seeking its literary publication. When asked why he chose to do so, he simply quipped, The characters jumped off the pages of the novel and landed on a different notepad. It was out of my hands."
