A group of country music stars including Ricky Skaggs, Josh Turner, Marty Raybon, Billy Dean and others who appeared on America Will Always Stand, a CD of original songs inspired by the Civil War and released by TimeLife Music in June, have joined forces to launch a get-out-the-vote initiative, “Your Country Your Vote” (http://www.yourcountryyourvote.org). “Your Country, Your Vote” is designed to reach the largest cross section of voting age adults in the USA… those who listen to country music.

The “Your Country, Your Vote” campaign will kickoff from Nashville with a formal announcement and special “In The Round” acoustic performance and recording session at Ricky Skaggs’ suburban Nashville studio on August 17th at 4:00 PM CDT. Artists scheduled to attend include Skaggs, Josh Turner, Billy Dean, Marty Raybon, The Whites, The Michaels and others. Noted Civil War historian, writer and director Ronald F. Maxwell (“Gods & Generals,” “Gettysburg”), who initiated the concept of America Will Always Stand, will also be on hand for the announcement.

Commented Ricky Skaggs, "We've come a long way since the Civil War, when brother fought brother. We still have differences and we have a place to voice our opinion . . . the voting booth. It doesn't matter whether you're a Republican, a Democrat or an independent, your opinion counts. It’s your country your vote!"

“In an election year, every political office is up for grabs somewhere,” said MCA recording artist Josh Turner, one of the first to jump on the campaign’s bandwagon. “So get out and help keep your country great with your vote.”

Conceived on July 4, 2004 from discussions amongst musicians who realized there was a need to reach a large section of the voting population “Your Country, Your Vote” will convey the message to get out and vote through pre-recorded radio and television Public Service Announcements (PSAs), announcements from the stage at concerts leading up to the November elections, plus ongoing activity on the organization’s web site, http://www.yourcountryyourvote.org

“What many people forget is that voting is a right, guaranteed by the Constitution, with the purpose of having leaders chosen by the people and for the people of our nation,” said Maxwell. “We still live in the greatest country in the world, where freedoms, opportunities and the ability to do whatever one wants to do still exists, by voting, and picking the right leaders, those cannons of our society will always be ours.”

America Will Always Stand is the first album of original material ever issued by TimeLife Music. Released in June, America Will Always Stand was brought to life by Maxwell, Tony Loiacono and Michael Curtis, songwriter and producer of the 9/11-inspired Randy Travis single, “America Will Always Stand” and one of the initiative’s organizers. Artists featured on the CD, some of whom have already lent their support to “Your Country Your Vote” are: Randy Travis, Darryl Worley, Lee Ann Womack, Ricky Skaggs, Blake Shelton, The Whites, Collin Raye, Daron Norwood, Josh Turner, The Wilsons, Billy Dean, Marty Raybon, Olivia Maxwell and The Michaels.

The songs were produced by Curtis with most written by Curtis and his writing partner Michael Pyle. America Will Always Stand embraces the sound of country music, with an emphasis on acoustic textures, intimate vocals, and melodies that stir strong currents of emotion. But each track also touches something deep in our national character. Though the songs are about the Civil War, a time when our nation was deeply divided, many of the CDs sentiments ring true today, 140 years later.

“When Randy and I sat down to put a song together to recognize all that the USA stands for we knew it was bigger than just one track,” Curtis commented. “Now it has inspired a 14 song CD and formed the basis for Your Country, Your Vote.”
