Zen readies itself for broadband rush
One of the UKs leading Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Zen Internet has announced it is already offering its more far-flung customers the chance to register interest in broadband connections, following BTs announcement that distance limits will be scrapped from 6 September.
(PRWEB) August 20, 2004 -- BTs announcement means that homeowners more than 6km away from their nearest exchange who previously couldnt get broadband, will now be able to experience fast, always-on Internet connectivity for the first time. Zen is already accepting registrations of interest, and will then contact customers to place orders on 6 September. Any orders placed on or after this date will be subject to the new procedures.
Zen was one of the ISPs that took part in the successful trials BT carried out at Milton Keynes and Dingwall in the Scottish Highlands. Ian Buckley, marketing manager at Zen Internet, said: The trials were extremely successful and we were very pleased to be involved in an initiative that will help bring broadband to another million homes. Were expecting a great deal of interest from our customers, which is why were already set up to register interest."
BT will be removing the reach limit for the 512kb/sec ADSL services and also increasing the range for 1Mb/sec premium services from 4km to approximately 6km. Customers on long lines will be warned that they may need a visit from an engineer in the event that the line does not work first time, to look at ways of getting the customer working, for example installing an ADSL faceplate, or addressing customer wiring problems inside or outside the premises.
Customers wishing to register interest with Zen can apply at www.zenbroadband.com/longreach .
