Radio One, Inc Named as the Official Title Sponsor of the 2004 Urban Independent Music Awards

October 2, 2004  Richmond, VA

Washington, DC (PRWEB) August 20, 2004 -- Radio One, Inc., the nation's seventh largest radio broadcasting company and the largest company that primarily targets African-American and urban listeners, was named as the official title sponsor of the 2004 Urban Independent Music Awards (UIMA) be to held Saturday, October 2, 2004 at the Richmond Convention Center in Richmond, VA. Presented by Making Moves, Inc., the 2004 Urban Independent Music Awards will feature the official Radio One Exhibit Hall, live performances and free style battles, a VIP reception, the UIMA awards show and the Fashion Premier 2004.

As the official sponsor, Radio One will host an exhibit hall filled with booths and kiosks that will let UIMA attendees visit vendors and companies representing various areas of the music and entertainment industry. Radio One will also have signage throughout the Richmond Convention Center and event area, sponsorship acknowledgement on www.uima.us and a regional television commercial. In addition, Radio One will be giving away an assortment of prizes at their booth and radio personalities will make appearances to sign autographs, meet fans and host the awards show.

This years UIMAs will roll out the red carpet to pay tribute to top entertainment icons for their contribution to independent music. The 2004 UIMA Honorees include Cathy Hughes for Radio Entrepreneur of the Decade", Tim Reid for "Entertainment Entrepreneur of the Decade", Susie Kay for "Community Activist of the Decade", Eve for "Entertainment Role Model of the Year", Donnie Simpson for Radio Personality of the Decade" and Stacy Lattisaw for Independent Pioneer of the Decade".

The 2004 UIMAs will kick off with a spectacular showcase featuring free style battles, live performances, the Radio One exhibit hall and exclusive give-a-ways. The highlight event, 2004 Urban Independent Music Awards, will bring together the industrys top independent artists and the all-star line-up of honorees to celebrate the achievements of artists in nearly all genres of the music industry. The evening will also consist of the highly-anticipated Independent Fashion Premier 2004; culminating top designers in the fashion industry for one of the industries hottest fashion shows.

This years event will combine high energy performances, the legendary stature of the 2004 honorees and a host of celebrity presenters and special guests to make for another sensational awards show. Independent artists will compete for top billing in categories including Album and Single of the Year for Go-Go, Gospel, Hip-Hop, Jazz, R&B/Soul, Reggae and Rock/Pop. Other award categories include DJ Of The Year, Independent Film of the Year, Independent Radio/Internet Broadcast, Magazine/Publication Of The Year, Music Video Of The Year, Producer Of The Year, and the Ron Wilch Fashion" Designer Of The Year.

Last year, the 2003 Urban Independent Music Awards recognized artists and industry professionals such as Ron Wilch, KRS-One, Luke Campbell, Roxanne Shante, DJ Kool, Ludacris and Big Tigger. The event brought over 1,000 attendees and sponsors such as the Hilton Hotel, Sony Urban Music, BlakByrd, J Records, Fashion Montage, Ron Wilch, Fetish and Earl Bannister.
