Voorhees H.S. Senior Completes Eagle Scout Project - Local Temple Benefits from Community Service
A high school student completes his Eagle scout project and helps out a local temple at the same time.
Flemington, NJ (PRWEB) August 21, 2004 -- Sam Abuchowski, a senior at Voorhees High School, is in process of completing the requirements to become an Eagle Scout - the highest rank within Boy Scouts of America.
To become an Eagle Scout, a Boy Scout must fulfill requirements in the areas of leadership and outdoor skills as well as provide community service to an organization such as a religious institution. Only about 4% of Boy Scouts actually achieve this prestigious ranking.
For his project, Sam chose to build a memorial garden at his temple, Or Chadash in Flemington, NJ. To meet the requirements of the Eagle Scout project, I wanted to do something that was both meaningful and demonstrated my connection to Or Chadash and this memorial garden gave me the chance to do both," he said.
The memorial garden is designed in a figure eight, surrounding two trees and includes a butterfly garden and a six sided bench in the shape of the Jewish Star of David. The entire project took about two years to complete from start to finish, with over 130 hours for actually building the memorial garden. The temple is planning a memorial dedication ceremony in September.
We are enormously proud of Sams accomplishment," said Louis Speizer, President of Or Chadash. We genuinely look forward to showing him our appreciation for helping to beautify our property and to recognize his becoming an Eagle Scout".
