Moonlight Poetry Begins in Minneapolis
Young organizer brings a new twist to the art of the spoken word in the Twin Cities.
(PRWEB) August 20, 2004 -- Wednesday, August 25, 2004 marks the kick-off of a series of great interest to those in the Twin Cities spoken word community. Moonlight Poetry, as it is called, will take place on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month from 9:00 pm until 1:00 am. The event will be held at Global Dish Restaurant in Minneapolis. The founder of the event, poet Nneka Onyilofor, aims to add a more socially conscious, slightly less commercial twist to the Twin Cities spoken word scene with the introduction of Moonlight Poetry. The evening of sharing, co-hosted on the 25th by Onyilofor and the spoken word group Vibin', will include an open mic session and notable featured artists. Among those featured on that evening will be poet and author Karla MarKay. Ms. MarKay is also a performing artist, instructor, and an administrator for IZORA Innovations, Inc., an organization dedicated to excellence in the performing, literary, and visual arts.
Global Dish Restaurant is located at 4016 Bloomington Avenue South. Admission is $3 for non-participants and $2 for participants.
Nneka Onyilofor works at African-American Family Services in Saint Paul and became a freelance contributing writer for the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder this past May. She can be contacted at poetree2100@yahoo.com.
