(PRWEB) August 24, 2004 -- Sports Mavericks" hosts, Ida Mourie and Elleanor Starks, broadcasting on Internet radio station VoiceAmerica (www.voiceamerica.com), welcome youth motivation speaker and former star defensive tackle for the San Diego Chargers, Reggie Berry on Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at 8:00pm EST. VoiceAmerica (www.voiceamerica.com) is a division of SurfNet Media Group, Inc (OTCBB: SFNM), a leading Internet broadcast media company.

Reggie Berry will discuss the Making of the Elite Athlete," and how athletes can use goal setting" to measure their upcoming season and enhance their career accomplishments. Berry played for the San Diego Chargers from 1972 to 1974. Today, as director of Los Angeles-based Goals for Life, a program he founded in 1989, he helps at risk students in Los Angeles area schools avoid drugs and crime, and establish positive direction in their lives.

And as president of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Football League Retired Players Association, he has a lot of old friends to help him. The Retired Players Association is a 2,000-member organization, with one-tenth of its membership in Los Angeles. Goals for Life combines the talents and involvement of both former and currently active professional athletes," said Berry.

When he retired from the National Football League in 1975, Berry wanted to do something with his life to help improve conditions. He studied to become a teacher and, over the next several years, worked as a tutor and mentor in federally funded and operated programs to help inner-city children. In 1989, using personal funds, he founded the Goals for Life" program, which helps youth realize their abilities, rise above barriers and achieve their dreams in life.
Listeners with questions, comments or opinions are encouraged to call in live, toll-free at 1-888-335-5204.
