In the book, The Joy of Islam, Hadayai Majeed introduces readers to the imaginative voices of Muslim women and children in an anthology of praise. It is a free flowing work of art and literature combined. The poems are innocent, provocative and passionate.
The Joy of Islam, published by AuthorHouse, is a collection of poetic and artistic expressions of Muslim children and women in the English language. The book is not only full of joy and praise of Allah (God) but it also provides the readers a glimpse into the uncomplicated lives of children as well the challenges faced by Muslim women in the United States and other parts of the world.
The Joy of Islam project is a group effort brought to life and to the market place by entrepreneur Hadayai Majeed based in Atlanta, Georgia.
Sr. Majeed is a freelance writer and publisher. Her company, Spencer-Majeed, Ltd., specializes in assisting first time authors in getting their works published. She was nominated for writer of the year by Georgia Writers, Inc. for her work, Emerging Victorious in 2000. Hadayai Majeed feels that there is a need for more creative works to be published and promoted within the Islamic ummah (community). Though not a poet, she occasionally gets inspired and all of her work is copyrighted and published.
ÂMy first objective for this book is to be able to provide a literary platform for Muslimah (women) poets and artists, professional and nonprofessionals alike, Majeed said.
She hopes that this artistic endeavor will serve as a catalyst for further creativity within the Muslim community and dispel the general image in the West that art, culture and creativity are nonexistent in Islam.
The Joy of Islam is expected to be released prior to or by September 10, 2004. (ISBN 1418420247, 81/2 x 11 coffee table paperback book, $13.95/$17.95 CAN). To arrange a book signing or interview, contact Hadayai Majeed at 800-285-9489 #00 or e-mail: Haleem1@aol.com.
