Howard Dean Endorses Malinda Miles for County Council

Dean's Democracy for America national grassroots organization endorses Malinda Miles' candidacy in September's special primary election.

BURLINGTON, VT (PRWEB) August 29, 2004 --- Malinda Miles, candidate for Prince George's County Council, has been endorsed by Governor Howard Dean, honorary chair and founder of Democracy for America (www.democracyforamerica.com). Ms. Miles is one of the "Dean Dozen," a select group of candidates that represent the spirit of grassroots democracy in this country.

On behalf of the candidates, Democracy for America has reached out to its supporters to inform them that Ms. Miles was one of the "Dean Dozen." Many of these enthusiastic supporters have already expressed interest in financially supporting and volunteering for candidates Dean endorses.

"This is an extraordinarily talented group of candidates who are dedicated to fighting for progressive values and fiscal responsibility," said Dean. "I am proud to include them in the Dean Dozen and am confident that they will work for what's best for their constituents, not for the special interests."

Malinda Miles, a long-time civic activist, is currently a city councilwoman in Mount Rainier. Her extensive background in community affairs makes her the ideal candidate to represent District 2.

Gov. Dean and Democracy for America have now endorsed six sets of "Dean Dozen" candidates in the last four months. Candidates running at every level of government have seen an immediate impact from this powerful endorsement: Maria Chappelle-Nadal, a political novice inspired by Dean and a candidate for Missouri State House, recently won her first election, a three way primary. Candidates have also seen a huge boost in traffic to their Web sites as a result of their inclusion in the Dean Dozen. For example, Rob MacKenna, candidate for supervisor of elections in Hillsborough County, Fl. had 22,840 visits to his Web site the Friday after the endorsement, up from a daily average of 420. The national media has also taken notice of the Dean Dozen candidates. Articles from The New Republic to New York Magazine to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution have illustrated the tremendous impact Dean's endorsement has had on Dean Dozen races.

Dean will be endorsing a dozen candidates every two weeks. For a complete list, please visit http://www.democracyforamerica.com/candidates .
