A1 Vacation Rentals, a 6-year-old website that lists privately owned vacation rental homes, offers a "power search" that lets vacationers find the lowest available off-season rates from 5,500 properties in its database.

According to Founder Brian Raub, "Oceanfront luxury vacation homes that rent for $4000/week during August can be had for as little as $1400 during September. It's a matter of supply and demand. People who can shift their vacation plans by a few weeks will find great buys with our Power Search tool."

The website -- http://www.a1vacations.com -- lists vacation rentals all over the world. Weekly rates run from $350 to $10,000 and more. Raub pointed to off-season values like these:

-- the 6 bedroom oceanfront "Dream Gables" in Avon, NC rents for $3995-$4495/week during August, then drops to $1395 in mid-September. The property has 3 master suites, a swimming pool and hot tub, unlimited Internet access, and 4 TVs.

-- the 5 bedroom "Seaside Villa Els Peixos" on Spain's Costa Brava rents for $3975/week in August, then drops to $1875 on October 1. The property includes 2 master bedrooms, a pool, and two beaches within walking distance.

-- the 4 bedroom "Sandgate Ocean Retreat", 20 steps from the beach on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, rents for $2500/week through September, then drops to $1500 on October 1. It includes a large hot tub, HDTV, high-speed Internet, a treadmill, and a pool table.

The Power Search at A1 Vacation Rentals lets you specify a maximum weekly rate you're willing to pay, plus the number of bedrooms and bathrooms you want. It searches rates for all 5,500 properties, looking for the lowest rates available for each property during the upcoming year.
