Paraplegic Business Owner Receives Patent-Pending Status for Invention to Help Wheelchair Users
The Freedom Systems has released two new products to help wheelchair users more easily carry and access their personal belongings without assistance. The key innovation was the development of "braced zippers" (patent pending) which allow the user to reach behind the chair and easily open and close any pocket on the backpack with one finger. Distribution is now underway and strategic partners to help expand marketing and product development are being sought.
San Anselmo, CA (PRWEB) August 30, 2004 --- The Freedom Systems has released two new products to help wheelchair users more easily carry and access their personal belongings without assistance. The key innovation was the development of "braced zippers" (patent pending) which allow the user to reach behind the chair and easily open and close any pocket on the backpack with one finger.
Company owner Tommy Kristensen is a wheelchair user of 34 years and started the company due to his frustration over trying to access his belongings in the commercially available products. After 17 prototypes and the investment of his life savings, he recently received the patent pending status on the zipper design which allowed the marketing of the products to start.
Kristensen started the company with the goal of adding "a little freedom back into the lives of the disabled, through innovatively designed products, with superior functionality." The Freedom Systems has prototype designs of other products under development and plans to introduce new items on a regular basis.
The new products have been named the "Instant Access Wheelchair Backpack" and are available in Basic and Deluxe versions. They are being marketed through wheelchair and medical suppliers as well as on-line at www.thefreedomsystems.com. Reports from the initial users of the product have been very favorable, and the company is now looking for strategic partners to help expand the marketing and speed development of new products.
