Sea Gull Lighting Products, Inc. promotes energy-efficient lighting with its distributor partners

Sea Gull Lighting Products, Inc., joins the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) ENERGY STARÒ program in launching the 5th annual Change a Light, Change the World campaign today. The campaign, which runs October through November, challenges Americans to switch to lighting products that have earned the ENERGY STAR – to save energy, money and to protect the environment.

"Changing the world really can be as simple as changing a light," said EPA ENERGY STAR spokesperson Wendy Reed. “This fall, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency encourages residents to replace their home’s five most frequently used light fixtures, or the bulbs in them, with models that have earned the ENERGY STAR. If every home in America made this change, we’d prevent air pollution equivalent to the emissions from more than 8 million cars.”

Leading lighting manufacturer, and ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year, Sea Gull Lighting will be supporting the EPA/DOE Change a Light campaign during October and November of 2004, partnering with its electrical distributors, lighting showrooms and partner retailers throughout the United States to make finding and buying energy-efficient light bulbs and fixtures easier. The company’s website http://www.SeaGullLighting.com/energystar provides a dealer locator, useful information on ENERGY STAR and features over 300 products from decorative to functional lighting options for residential or light commercial application. Local, regional and national activities include regional lighting change-out events and special regional offers from participating retail, manufacturer and regional utility partners to help consumers save on light bulbs and fixtures that have earned the ENERGY STAR for high efficiency.

“Sea Gull Lighting is once again proud to bring the Change a Light, Change the World message to communities around the country, helping local families think about ways to reduce energy usage, save money and help the environment at the same time,” said Jeff Beiter, Director Business Development -Energy Efficient Products . “A typical household spends about $100 a year or 7% of its energy bill on lighting. Replacing the five most frequently used lights in the home with models that have earned the ENERGY STAR will help homeowners save more than $60 a year in energy costs. Sea Gull Lighting proudly supports the Change a Light, Change the World campaign to help promote energy efficiency through messaging and promotional materials at the retail level as well as on a corporate level with participation in national events and public relations.”

ENERGY STAR qualified fixtures and bulbs last six to ten times longer than standard models, and operate on two-thirds less energy. In addition, lighting products that have earned the ENERGY STAR generate about 70% less heat than standard incandescent lighting, which means they’re cool to the touch and can help reduce energy costs associated with cooling the home.

Offering Americans the latest in design, convenience, and efficiency, ENERGY STAR qualified fixtures come in a wide variety of styles to fit any home décor. If each household in the U.S. switched the lighting in just one room to ENERGY STAR, the change would save over $3 billion annually in electricity costs.
