Filipina Womens Network Launches Nationwide Search for Filipina Women Who Could Be President"

The Filipina Womens Network announces the nationwide search for Filipina Women Who Could be President," a campaign to highlight the achievements of Filipina women in management and leadership roles. The search is part of a larger FWN campaign, Shaping the Filipina Image" and officially kicks off the FWN Summit, Leadership, Power and Influence for Filipina Women," on October 22 and 23, 2004, in San Francisco, CA.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) August 31, 2004 -- The Filipina Womens Network (FWN) announces the launch of Filipina Women Who Could Be President," a national campaign to promote positive images and create leadership opportunities for Filipina women in corporations, government agencies, community based and nonprofit organizations. FWN seeks to showcase and educate the press and the public about Filipina womens abilities to lead, influence and manage. The search is part of a larger FWN campaign, Shaping the Filipina Image" and officially kicks off the FWN Summit, Leadership, Power and Influence for Filipina Women," on October 22 and 23, 2004, in San Francisco, CA.

I think its a shame that of the 2.36 million Filipinos in the U.S., 55 percent of which are women (U.S. Census 2000), we have identified only three Filipinas in senior management at Fortune 500 companies. These women are Cora M. Tellez, former president of Health Net's Health Plans Division; Marissa Peterson, EVP, Customer Advocacy, Network Services, and Worldwide Operations, Sun Microsystems; and Evelyn Dilsaver, EVP and Chief Administrative Officer, U.S. Trust Corporation, a subsidiary of Charles Schwab. With this campaign, we are challenging the perceptions that hold Filipina women back from becoming full participants in the workplace. We also think there are more Filipinas out there trailblazing their way and performing the roles and competencies of senior management and leadership. We want to find them. We are calling on the Fortune 500 corporations, government agencies, community based and nonprofit organizations that have high populations of Filipinas in their workforce to nominate these women and encourage them to attend the FWN Summit," said Marily Mondejar, president of Filipina Womens Network.

Tessie Zaragoza, Chair of the FWN Board, added, This campaign is about building the Filipina communitys pipeline of qualified leaders, increasing our odds that some will rise to the president position in corporate, nonprofit and government sectors. FWNs membership profile indicates that 41 percent have graduate degrees, 22 percent have college degrees, 30 percent are in professional occupations, 11 percent in government, 8 percent are business owners and 8 percent are management executives. We have the talent and the experience. Corporations ought to tap our leadership talent pool."
