New Art Exhibit, "Art in Dialogue" opens at Baxter Chang Patri Fine Art in the Hotel Nikko San Francisco

Art in Dialogue is an exhibition that explores the dynamics of dialogue and interaction that take place between art, artist and viewer.

(PRWEB) September 7, 2004 -- New Exhibit, Art in Dialogue" opens at Baxter Chang Patri Fine Art in the Hotel Nikko, San Francisco. Featuring the works of Bacon,Chagall, Dahlberg, Dine, Frankenthaler,Johns, Leighnor, Matisse, Morgan, Motherwell, Miró, Picasso, Rembrandt, Ruscha, Stella, Warhol and others.

This show opens on September 7th and continues through November 15th. Some of the artists will be present at a special opening reception that will take place on Wednesday, September 15th from 5:30-8:30 PM.

Art in Dialogue is an exhibition that explores the dynamics of dialogue and interaction that take place between art, artist and viewer. This show will examine the relationship that exists between, or in opposition with the works of art by twentieth-century artists and contemporary artists, through their distinctive approaches with the media of painting, printmaking, and sculpture. This exhibition will address the pictorial language and principals that simultaneously unite and divide the works of art through their aesthetic, conceptual, historical and/or material aspects. The goal is to provide an experience for the viewer to comprehend and respond to the multiple conversations that are active within the artworks and among the artists.

An example of such a dialogue is present in the pairing of a work on paper by Frank Stella with a painting by Wes Dahlberg. Through multiple layering of colors, grid-like lines, and sculptural markings both artists communicate their interest in arts physical/material and visual presence. Both Stella and Dahlberg comment on the works surface plane, whether it is an investigation of negative space (internal) or its tangible presence (external). Jill Dawsey, Curatorial Associate, Department of Painting and Sculpture, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art speaks of Stellas later works as being positioned between the optical space of sculpture and architecture, ...[which incorporate multiple modes of viewing. They are simultaneously pictorial (addressed to the eye) and perceptual (addressed to the realm of lived experience)."

Dahlberg continues this dialogue with Stella in his paintings, stating that they refer to the fabric of their own being, the dynamics between the liquid paint and the solid panel, the harmonies created by scale, shape and color, and the theoretical distance between intersecting brushstrokes in each painting and what viewers call 'the Cartesian grid ". Further dialogue between the artworks and among the artists are presented and open for the viewers interpretation throughout this exhibition.

Located in the Hotel Nikko in San Francisco, Baxter Chang Patri Fine Art specializes in contemporary painting, sculpture and photography. The gallery is co-owned by Holly Baxter and renowned San Francisco architect Piero Patri of Patri Merker Architects. The gallery brings an array of internationally established contemporary artists' works to the San Francisco art market.
