Non-profit, WIBA, will be sponsoring 15 high school students from Bridgeport,CT and their parents to attend an inspirational session from world-renowned motivational speaker and best-selling author, Les Brown. Brown has risen to national prominence by delivering a high-energy message, which tells people how to shake off mediocrity and live up to their greatness.

Bridgeport, CT (PRWEB) September 7, 2004 -- The rising number of high school dropouts, high teenage pregnancy rates and growing violence and drug abuse among teens are disturbing yet undeniable facts. Redirecting their efforts and changing the negative attitudes, which young people have about themselves, their lives and their communities can be the first step in helping them discover their untapped capabilities.

“Our youth have developed behavioral patterns that prevent them from dreaming, growing and reaching their full potential,” says Phyllis Lingard, president of Bridgeport-based Women In Business Association (WIBA) and founder of Faith House. “The children and teens in Bridgeport need more positive adult role models and alternative models of behavior in order to rise above the negative expectations.”

Child by child, teen by teen, Lingard’s efforts are helping Bridgeport’s youth deal with these problems and struggles As part of her latest efforts, WIBA will be sponsoring 15 high school students from Bridgeport and their parents to attend an inspirational session from world-renowned motivational speaker and best-selling author, Les Brown. Brown has risen to national prominence by delivering a high-energy message, which tells people how to shake off mediocrity and live up to their greatness. He is also the author of the highly acclaimed and successful books, Live Your Dreams, and newly released book, It's Not Over Until You Win.

“We hope that with some stimulation and renewed belief in themselves, WIBA can start these teens on a journey of self-development,” says Lingard. WIBA, a non-profit group established to help minority women take charge of their personal, social and financial destiny, provides educational and mentoring opportunities as well as personal support for teens who are in desperate need of assistance.

WIBA’s first scholarship dinner to support its Over Comers Scholarship Fund, will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2004 at the Trumbull Marriott Hotel at 7PM, featuring Brown. Price is $60 per person with all proceeds going to the Over Comers Scholarship Fund. For tickets, call (203) 416-5287 or visit ticket outlets at Bread of Life Bookstore, Huntington Turnpike, Bridgeport or Hair’s Kay Salon, 143 Fitch St. New Haven.
