Independent Filmmaker Enters New Project in Oakland International Film Festival
A Coincidental Turbulence" Eligible for Best Short Documentary Award
OAKLAND, CA (PRWEB) September 6, 2004 --- An independent artist and filmmaker will have his newest film project screened during the third annual Oakland (Calif.) International Film Festival, September 15-19.
Tom Brennan, of Oakland, Calif., and Westminster West, Vt., entered his film -- A Coincidental Turbulence" -- in this years film festival. Brennan is a native of Toms River, N.J.
The film was chosen for screening from more than 300 entries and will be eligible for the festivals prestigious Best Short Documentary award. It will be shown on the final night of the festival as part of the Stories of Survival documentary program.
A Coincidental Turbulence" was produced by Orthopedic Dance Media, Brennans production company. He said the introspective tone of the film is rooted in a chance encounter he had in December 1995 with a fast moving truck. The accident resulted in the amputation of his right leg below the knee.
In a way, the film is about recognizing that its not just me," Brennan said. More people are affected by chance encounters than we think. And these disruptions, they may not be as coincidental as they appear."
It is impossible to turn away from this piece, even though your brain is telling you this is more visual and textual pain than you signed up for," wrote Gregg Ward, a contributing film critic for The List Magazine: U.K.
Since graduating from Boston University, Brennan has completed numerous film, theatrical, and art projects in the United States and abroad. His cutting edge style and experimental tones have earned him recognition in art communities in northern California, St. Louis, Boston, New York, Sweden, Venezuela, and elsewhere.
