New Mark Powers Percussion Ensemble Compositions Available

Announcing the release of four new percussion compositions by Mark Powers

(PRWEB) September 6, 2004 -- Now available at www.reallygoodmusic.com . . .
Four new percussion compositions by performer/educator Mark Powers.

"Who Be You?" was written for Middle School Percussion ensembles. It is an adaptation of Gahu, a recreational dance of the Ewe people of Ghana, West Africa. It is written for 6 players. Player I = 2 Cowbells; II = Maracas; III = High Conga; IV = Low Conga; V = 2 Tom-toms; VI = Floor Tom

"Buckets of Nantucket" is a unique percussion ensemble that will excite your students and light a fire under your audience. It is written for 5 players who perform on 4 plastic buckets and 1 rubber garbage can! Mark has notated some clever sounds from the simplest of "instruments". The rhythms and interplay among the 5 performers is quite interesting an challenging. Highly recommended.

"The Joke" is a short, but interesting drumset solo composition for school drummers. "The Joke" uses regular and half-time rock beats and some challenging 16th-note fills.

"Djammin" was written as a djembe duet. This is a great piece to introduce your students to djembe drumming. Both parts incorporate Bass, Open, Slap and Touch tones and allow room for each player to take a short improvised solo over the other players rhythm.

As a private drumset instructor, Mark Powers currently maintains a roster of about 50 students in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Also conducting group percussion programs, Mark is often Artist-in-Residence at area elementary and middle schools- facilitating hand drum circles, leading 'Junk Jam workshops, teaching West African drumming styles and directing percussion ensembles.

His busy schedule has also allowed him to work musically with many great organizations, including: Hollywood Images, the Ronald McDonald House, Oshkosh BGosh, Narrator Tracks, the Aveda / Horst Institute, the Minnesota Twins and the Delta Queen Steamboat Company.

Mark has written for Fever Pitch Magazine and has published three percussion ensemble compositions and a drumset solo. All four are available from R.G.M., LLC online at www.reallygoodmusic.com.

He also holds the Guinness World Record for Longest Drum Roll by a Group- a title shared with colleagues Patrick Flanigan, Peter Buxman and Namiah Tribolini.
