Education is Priceless for Special Needs Adoptions

Pre-placement training is a key component when working with special needs children. Loving Homes, Inc. in Colorado offers monthly training on various topics to adoptive parents, foster parents, and mentors.

(PRWEB) September 8, 2004 -- The costs involved with adopting special needs children was a topic of interest at the Republican National Convention last Tuesday. The National Adoption Information Clearinghouse reports the cost at anywhere from $5,000 to more than $40,000. Loving Homes, Inc. believes that pre-placement education is the most important expense for the success of a special needs adoption.

In 2003, the federal adoption expense tax credit increased to a maximum of $10,160 per adoption. Parents with special needs children can take the full tax credit regardless of their actual expenses. To prepare for a special needs adoption, adoptive parents should receive training on child behavior, attachment, child development, sexual abuse, behavior management and many other facets of the abused, neglected and special needs child.

Loving Homes, Inc. offers pre-placement education classes in Denver or Pueblo on a monthly basis. They are open to adoptive parents, foster parents, and mentors. Classes are mandatory to be licensed as a placement home in the state of Colorado.

Loving Homes, Inc. also offers training manuals on the following topics:

- Alcohol Effect Children
- Early Interventions for Attachment Disorder Children
- Strategies for Parenting Emotionally Disturbed and Challenging Children
- How to Manage Children's Previous Sexual Victimization when Providing Foster or Adoptive Care
