Women Prefer Sexy Over Scary this Halloween

The costumes that are selling the most are the ones that reveal the most skin and are the most complimentary to a woman’s body. These include the sexy nurse costume, fire-woman, and police woman costumes, as well as the sexy fraulein girl, and naughty angel costumes.”

This year, people have an entire weekend to attend costume parties because Halloween lands on a Sunday. That means more opportunity for large public parties, nightclub events, bar and restaurant parties, and private parties. “These women do not want to wear the same costume twice,” says McCarthy, “so we believe we are seeing a jump in sales as a result.”

So what is fueling the Halloween glamour boom? “The short answer is the media,” says McCarthy. “Women, especially young women are being bombarded with images of fit, trim and sexy women such as Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears, and Paris Hilton. I believe a lot of young women who dress conservative most of the year, use Halloween as an escape to be someone they normally wouldn’t be. For many women, that alter-ego is someone who is wild and sexy.”

“Last year, the hottest Halloween costume we sold was Tinkerbell,” said Hipwear co-founder Jacqueline McCarthy. “It was so, hot, that we ran out of the Tinkerbell costume by mid-October. This year, we have increased the number of costume suppliers, and have more than doubled our inventory of costumes so that we have less of a chance of running out of any of our costumes.”

Hipwear.com and the Hipwear store are poised and ready to more than quadruple their Halloween business this year. "We have increased staffing for our web, catalog and retail businesses, and have automated most of the order fulfillment and shipping processes," says Jay McCarthy. If this year’s early Halloween rush is any indication, we are going to have an incredible year selling sexy costumes.”
