– How does laughter help a person through the divorce process? Laughter is a natural coping mechanism. It relaxes muscle tension and causes release of endorphin-like substances in our brains that provides natural pain relief and a sense of well-being. After a good laugh, most people feel less anxious and stressed. Laughter works by providing a “time-out” from worries, and this brief respite often helps us shift perspective so we see situations in a new way. Could this be helpful? I would think so, especially when you have your day in court with your soon to be “ex”.

Is that possible? Can a person actually laugh their way through a divorce? According to Joanie Winberg, a Certified Business/Life Coach and Certified Laughter Coach, who says while laughing, the answer to those questions is a resounding “YES”! Hahahaha!

Divorce is an extremely difficult time in a person’s life as well as an emotional roller coaster. Winberg has been divorced for 10 years and having gone through the divorce process, she remembers it being anything but a laughing matter.

The National Center for Health Statistics in the United States reports the marriage rate at 7.8% per thousand total population and the divorce rate at 4.0% per thousand (over 50%).
