New IP phone snom 190 addresses security in VoIP

With the snom 190, the Berlin company addresses recent concerns about security of VoIP calls and adds productivity features for the business user.

Berlin (PRWEB) September 21, 2004 -- With the snom 190, the Berlin company addresses recent concerns about security of VoIP calls and adds productivity features for the business user.

With a two-line LCD display, alphanumeric call ID and a user interface with a multitude of functions, the snom 190 fulfils the desires of the discerning Internet telephone caller and offers everything possible to facilitate the making of calls. Smart features like number-guessing, call completion (subscriber busy/no answer) boost the productivity in day-to-day work. Call parking and call pickup makes the phone usable like in the old PBX times. With an extra Ethernet port, having to connect different leads is also a thing of the past.

Using the latest security standards of the IETF, snom sets the pace in the fast-moving VoIP industry. The 190 offers both sips (RFC2246) and SRTP (RFC3711). This makes it practically impossible to tap VoIP calls between the snom 190 and another standards-compliant VoIP endpoint.

At the extent to which the use of Voice-over-IP is increasing due to advanced technology, obviously security is also permanently under close scrutiny" says snom founder Dr. Christian Stredicke. It goes without saying that in spite of its competitive price, with the snom 190 we offer the maximum security currently technologically possible against access from the outside such as eavesdropping or manipulation".

Although it doesnt provide Power-over-Ethernet, the snom 190 makes up for this by supporting the Codec G.723.1. And this means compatibility with considerably more components of other manufacturers. With respect to speech quality, the snom 190, even with low bandwidths, therefore achieves a standard that was previously only possible with broadband technology.
