Launch of Eco Friendly Product Range at GLEE 2004
A Uk based Company will launch a range of non toxic, non chemical products at this years GLEE show being held at Birmingham's NEC on 19th - 21st September 2004
(PRWEB) September 19, 2004 -- The environmental ethos behind Microtechs product range is of paramount importance to the company. It was the founding principle that has driven ten years of rigorous scientific research and development to create a unique range of environmentally friendly insect control and gardening / horticultural products.
When the non-toxic, non-chemical insect traps were first proposed the ideas were regarded as rather hippy, beards and butterfly brigade, eco-fringe and of little interest to the mainstream pest control market. When the seaweed products were under development the ideas behind them were greeted in much the same way, chemicals work, why change? Seaweed belongs to the mythical, magical aspect of gardening and horticulture.
Times have changed, the chemical industrys hold on these markets has weakened due to the growing public awareness of the dangers that these toxic materials present; at both a personal and wider environmental level. Legislation is reflecting public opinion and concerns, year on year more products containing harmful chemicals are being withdrawn from the market. What were once fringe products, of interest to a few organic growers and health fanatics, are now in demand throughout the mainstream market.
Microtech was prepared for the sea change that has been taking place during the past few years and has put its research programmes into practice, opening a production unit in Cornwall, manufacturing and launching a range of eight environmentally friendly products into the gardening/pest control markets.
The Microtech range of traps are all based on the principle of using non-toxic, non-chemical baits as an attractant. All the baits are based on simple protein formulae that lure the target species. Once the pest enters the trap there is no escape and the insect drowns. The outdoor fly and wasp traps will attract and kill many thousands of insects. The fly traps have been used by Oxfam in refugee camps where they proved to be extremely effective, literally 'hoovering up flies, as the then head of Oxfams public health department described it.
The wasp traps have been in great demand throughout the summer as the wasp population has reached its highest, most aggressive levels for 24 years. They are ideal for use in pub gardens, on patios, anywhere, in fact, that wasps are a nuisance. The indoor fly and cockroach traps are a clean and effective way of controlling these pests, again they use only protein attractants but they are sticky traps using non-setting adhesives. All the Microtech insect traps are flat packed for easy transport, storage and display. They are supplied with tubes of bait and easy to follow instructions.
The ShoreGrow range of garden and amenity products has just received Soil Association Certification for use as a restricted input in organic growing. The seaweeds used in their manufacture are from certified sustainable resources. The range uses a mixture of seaweed powders and ready to use seaweed gels and liquids. The powder products are a general purpose fertiliser, a slow release fertiliser and a soil conditioner, the gel plant feed is a unique tubed product containing a pure seaweed gel, rich in natural nutrients which stimulate root and plant growth. The final product in the range is a ready to use foliar spray. A new product, ShoreGrow Tomato Feed, will be available in the spring of 2005.
Our current customers include:
RBG Kew Enterprises Ltd (Kew Gardens), a world heritage site whose aim is to promote better environmental management through increased knowledge of the plant world.
The Eden Project, Cornwall, whose objective is to create an organisation that works for environmental/educational, economic and social health at a local, national and international level.
Microtech has had the privilege of supplying ShoreGrow natural seaweed products to the Eden Project for use in the 2004 Cornish Crop Exhibition. Despite an extremely changeable summer, we were informed that good early root establishment led to rapid plant growth and produced excellent results.
The ShoreGrow range of garden products and the Microtech insect trap range are currently available in garden centres and hardware shops throughout Cornwall. The amenity turf range was launched to great effect at SALTEX 2004 and the Garden Retail Range will be launched nationally at GLEE 2004. All ranges will be widely available in the spring of 2005.
