Cuban Vintage - From Oz, via Portobello to Harrods.
Aussie Streetwear label gains momentum.
(PRWEB) September 19, 2004 -- Since arriving from Sydney earlier this year, Cuban Vintage has established itself as a major player in the UK Streetwear Market.
In just eight months the little Aussie label has secured major stockists such as Harrods-way in and influencial boutiques up and down the country.
"It's been a little daunting to say the least", says Mike McCann, one of the labels founders, "We haven't even participated in a major european trade show and the response has been amazing". The label is gearing up for it's European debut at the Bread and Butter show next year.
But it hasn't all been plain sailing as Gary Grimme, co-founder pointed out. "We found it really hard starting a fresh here in the UK,
it's so formal and you have to fight the snobbery, but at the end of the day if your offering a high quality product, you just have to take a leap of faith".
Cuban Vintage's mix of obscure vintage graphics and pop-art sensibility have distinguished the label from it's established rivals. "Design wise Cuban Vintage was never going tobe just another dose of 'Generica' or Generic Americana label", says Mike " We follow our instincts and have our tongues firmly planted in our cheeks. You can't take yourself too seriously."
The boys have a major deal in the pipeline with one of London's swankiest Cocktail bar chains. "An executive from the company
walked into one of our stockist's and bought everything!, w'ere looking at producing a range just for them at the moment".
Do they miss Australia? "Yeah mate!, but we were born here, let's face it, London's where it's at".
