ORG Telecom uses Eutelsats SESAT 2 Satellite to support expansion of GSM network in Afghanistan
India, New Delhi (PRWEB) September 24, 2004 -- ORG Telecom Ltd. a leading Telecom & IT system integrator announced today that it has signed a long-term agreement with Eutelsat S.A., France, one of the worlds leading satellite operators to develop the market for extending cellular coverage via satellite.
In Afghanistan, there is currently a very limited telephone service, with many provinces still cut off from each other and the rest of the world. ORGs customer, a local telecom operator, is building a GSM network in Afghanistan to facilitate mobile telephony in both rural and urban areas deprived of terrestrial infrastructure. ORG is proud to share this business, enabling GSM operators to inter-connect different provinces through a satellite network. The company has already connected four remote provinces across the country to the central switch in Kabul and enabled the first ever voice calls to many of these provinces.
Thanks to ORGs strong network integration capabilities it is now able to provide instant reach to the most remote areas in Afghanistan. Voice traffic is transmitted via satellite using a remote cellular base station connected to VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminals). ORG has chosen Eutelsats Ku-band satellite SESAT 2 satellite at 53 degrees East for its excellent high-power coverage over Afghanistan and its interconnectivity with Europe. This network is an excellent example of how satellite complements fixed telecom infrastructure to offer a quick rollout in a cost-effective manner.
Eutelsat has the scope to service emerging needs for telecommunications, broadband and broadcasting services and working with ORG will assist in rebuilding devastated telecom infrastructure in Afghanistan. In regions such as this, satellite is the only solution and we are very pleased to have been selected by ORG to support their solution for expansion of Afghanistans GSM network." said, Jan Grøndrup-Vivanco, Regional Director, Eutelsat S.A.
Speaking on the announcement, Ajoy Khanderia, CEO, ORG Informatics Ltd said, ORG is a system integrator in Telecom space and has been providing converged IT & Telecom services to its clients world wide. Cooperation with Eutelsat would provide ORG larger opportunities to serve its clients in VSAT & Satellite services space"
