Passive CWDM Multiplexers Increase the Efficiency of Fiber Optic Lines

ghip systems CWDM multiplexer series increase the efficency of fiber optic connections. Up to 16 channels with up to 10 Gbit/s can be transported over a single fiber optic line. The devices are all passive so a very high realibility is archivied.

Hamburg (PRWEB) September 22, 2004 -- ghip systems GmbH extend their product portfolio with a series of passive CWDM systems (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing). The customer can choose between devices with 4, 8 or 16 channels. All devices are designed as 19" units with a mounting height of 1HU, so that they easily fit into standard industrial racks.

Because the multiplexers are built only from passive optical components, a power supply is not needed.

This system allows a very cost-effective multiple usage of fiber optic lines. Depending on the quality of the fiber, up to 16 applications can be transported over the same line, each with up to 10 Gbit/s.

Until recently, most of the CWDM systems were built as active components. These devices converted the optical input to the required CWDM color and feeded it directly into the CWDM coupler.

Because most of the more recent end devices nowadays contain GBIC or SFP slots, this inflexibe method is not necessary anymore. Many manufacturers are now offering ready-to-use transceiver modules with CWDM colors for these slots.

When using these modules in combination with passive CWDM multiplexers from ghip systems, a very simple and cost-effective solution has become available.

Additionally, the overall fail-safety of the network will be extremely increased when building it up as a purely passive system.

Compared to active CWDM multiplexer components, this solution has very low initial and operating cost.

The fields of application for ghip systems passive CWDM multiplexers include a wide range of metro access solutions, campus networks and enterprise backbones.
