EmployeeROI today announced that Muriel Siebert, chairwoman and president of Muriel Siebert & Co., Inc., is one of the keynote speakers for their Women's Leadership Breakfast on September 22, 2004 in midtown Manhattan.

Ms. Siebert will speak about the secret of making a difference in business and in life. “Women need to take stands, take risks, take responsibility because what American business does affects the lives of individual people."

Ms. Siebert is the founder, chairwoman and president of the national stock brokerage firm that bears her name, Muriel Siebert & Co., Inc. She established the firm in 1967 when she became the first woman member of the New York Stock Exchange. In 1975, the first day that New York Stock Exchange member firms were permitted to negotiate commissions, Siebert became one of the very first to announce that it would become a discount brokerage house. From 1977-1982, Ms. Siebert served as New York State’s first woman Superintendent of Banks, with responsibility for the safety and soundness of all banks in New York State. This was the highest position in banking supervision or regulation ever obtained by a woman at the time.

In 1999, while president of the New York Women’s Agenda, a coalition of over 100 women’s organizations, Ms. Siebert developed a Personal Finance Program to improve the financial literacy of our nation’s young people. The program was initially designed to teach two essential financial management skills – managing a checkbook and understanding the use and abuse of credit cards. The program is currently being taught in New York City high schools as part of the economics curriculum for seniors, and has recently been expanded to include such topics as the basics of money, banking, credit, budgeting, taxes, insurance, investing, etc. It is scheduled to be city-wide in the spring of 2005. The Council of the Great City Schools, a coalition of the nation’s largest urban public school systems, has forwarded the program to each of their 60 member cities. In keeping with her personal agenda, Ms. Siebert hopes to see this program established nationally.
