International Stuttering Awarness Day, 22 Oct 2004 -International Year of the Child Who Stutters."
Most people take the spoken word for granted, but for people who stutter the use of the spoken language is a daily struggle, a continuous challenge. It is estimated that approximately 1% of the world population stutters. This means that approximately 60,000 Israelis stutter. For many of them their speech inhibits them from reaching their potential in many aspects of their personal or professional lives.
(PRWEB) September 26, 2004 -- There are many myths regarding stuttering believed by the stuttering and non-stuttering population." says Barbara Dahm, director of CTI, a clinic that specializes in the treatment of stuttering.
Some of the more common ones are:
1. Bad parenting or stress causes stuttering.
2. It helps to tell a stutterer to "slow down," "take a big breath before you start talking," or "think about what you want to say first."
3. Children will outgrow stuttering if it is ignored.
4. Stutterers think too quickly.
