Excelsior, LLC, a Russian ISV and outsourcing services provider focused on development tools, today announced a 15-month outsourcing contract with NPO PM, a Russian leader in the design and manufacture of communication and broadcasting satellite systems. Under the contract, Excelsior will use its expertise to create the new generation of Modula-2 tools tailored for on-board spacecraft software development.
NPO PM will put the new Modula-2 toolchain, based on Excelsior's XDS technology, at the heart of its software development process. Specifically, Excelsior will create a highly optimizing cross-compiler, interactive and batch-operated debuggers, on-board system simulator, and automated software testing system.
"We are grateful to receive recognition of our competence from spacecraft producers," said Andrey Khapugin, Excelsior's CEO. "Over the last 10 years we have developed numerous production-quality tools based on our technology, and we have no doubt about the success of this project."
"We have experience over a wide range of cross-programming systems, from free open-source tools to products made by mature embedded system vendors. None of them fully satisfies the requirements of our production process," said Andrey Koltashev, head of the Spacecraft Software Engineering Department at NPO PM. "Now we have decided to charge Excelsior with development of our production toolchain's key components. We have chosen that company for its expertise, high-quality support of its products, and its recognized reliability as a partner."
Excelsior, LLC has provided advanced software development solutions  optimizing compilers, source-to-source translators, analysis and reengineering tools, and related services since 1999. Privately held, Excelsior, LLC, has its headquarters in Novosibirsk, Russia, and is on the Web at http://www.excelsior-usa.com.
