Celtic Inns saves 80% of its Direct Marketing Costs with New Initiative

Celtic Inns, the operator of 60 pubs in south and west Wales and southern England has today announced that it has saved 80 per cent of its direct marketing costs by using DynmarkÂ?s mobile phone texting software, e-txt(TM) to reach customers in a number of its pubs.

The new initiative involves sending text messages using Dynmark’s text messaging software, to pub customers and notifying them of promotions, quizzes and discounts. The previous method of informing customers was through direct mailshots and local advertising; by switching to texting, the company has saved 80 per cent of its direct marketing costs.

Celtic is using Dynmark’s SMS Press, a powerful text message distribution system that operates like an e-mail application, but rather than sending e-mails, Celtic uses it to send text messages. Customers can also text the company back with a response.

The cost of sending an average of 1,400 text messages a week is £77 compared to £392 to sending mailshots by post. On postage alone, Celtic makes a saving of 80 per cent on its costs. Response rates are higher too and recipients never ignore a text message.

Rory Lucas, marketing manager at Celtic Inns enthused: “It is the most effective way of communicating with pub customers that I have used. We used free prize draws to gather mobile telephone numbers in the pubs and now send texts to our customers alerting them to offers. Many customers have sent texts back, thanking us for the offer – a true indication that this form of marketing is very effective.”

Celtic Inns currently arranges a monthly promotion for a number of its pubs. These pubs are selected on the basis of trading style and suitability. On the evening of the promotion, texts are sent out to an average of 70-80 people at 6.00pm alerting them to the offer and then another text is sent at 9.00pm reminding them again. The types of message range from entering prize draws, to highlighting a quiz night by asking the first question by text message.
