Pumped Up About Blood

Pima Medical Institute in Tucson donated a record 86 units of blood at a recent blood drive.

(PRWEB) September 26, 2004 -- The students and staff at Pima Medical Institute, 3350 E. Grant Road, Suite 200 put a little of themselves into their work by donating 86 units of blood for a recent blood drive. It was a record amount for the campus that specializes in training healthcare professionals, including phlebotomy technicians who are trained to draw and process blood for clinics, hospitals and laboratories.

As future healthcare practitioners, our students understand the importance of blood donations and want to help," said Stan Bodzioney, campus director for the Tucson school. The blood banks are always in need of donations and we are proud of our students and staff for rolling up their sleeves and making a difference."

Little known facts about blood include:
·   An estimated 85% of us will require blood before the age of 75.
·   One pint of blood can save up to three different peoples lives.
·   The average car accident trauma uses about 50 units of blood.
·   There is no substitute for human blood.

The institute has programs for: Dental Assistant; Medical Assistant; Medical Administrative Assistant; Health Unit Coordinator; Pharmacy Technician; Physical Therapy Technician; Phlebotomy Technician; Radiography; Respiratory Therapy and Veterinary Assistant.
