Before she became a coach, Cohen was a career counselor in the undergraduate program of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania where she worked with students and alumni on job-search strategies and, with corporations, on recruitment strategies. As a university administrator, she also provided personal counseling and staff training, development and supervision. Cohen also worked as a career development specialist, assisting employees in surpassing career goals, negotiating complex corporate structures and managing workplace conflict.

Cohen holds an economics degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a masters degree in counseling from Villanova University. She also completed training programs from Corporate Coach University International and Coach University headquartered in Colorado.
