New Bern, NC (PRWEB) September 30, 2004
Susan Eileen Walker, New Bern resident and author of MauraÂs Trunk and 101 Borden Street will be holding a book signing at Port City Java in New Bern on Friday October 8th from 5 until 8 p.m. MauraÂs Trunk, Ms. WalkerÂs latest endeavor, is set in downtown New Bern.
Maura Kincannon knew her time was short. She did not want her grandchildren to have her antique trunk and its contents, so she gave them to Quinn Foster. At almost 18, Quinn finally had her chaotic life straightened out. She had a home and a friend who loved her and cared what she was doing with her life. Then Maura dies. Quinn finds herself homeless and without her mentor to guide her. Upon opening MauraÂs last gift, an antique trunk filled with money, Quinn finds that her future is secure. So what do the two men following her want?
Ms. WalkerÂs first book, 101 Borden Street was nominated for numerous awards to include the 2003 NC AAUW Award for Juvenile Fiction, the 2003 Mystery Writers of America Edgar Award for Best Young Adult Fiction and the 2003 The Sir Walter Raleigh Award for Fiction. A reviewer for the online literary newsletter, BetsieÂs Literary Page Newsletter said about 101 Borden Street, ÂFinally a ghost story to rival Oscar WildeÂs Canterville Ghost.Â
In addition to work on her next novel, Ms. Walker runs a one-woman medical transcription business, working for the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro. She donates over 500 hours each year knitting hats and baby blankets for infants and children. She also knits hats for the homeless and for the Christmas at Sea program of the SeamanÂs Church Institute of New York and New Jersey.
Both of Ms. WalkerÂs books can be ordered online at http://www. publishamerica.com or by calling Publish America at (301) 695-1707. MauraÂs Trunk is also available through Mitchell Hardware.
