Half Price Computer Books Scholarship Winners Hate Spam

Half Price Computer Books is pleased to announce the winners of their winter 2003 essay scholarship awards. This was the discount bookseller's second scholarship competition, designed to encourage critical thinking on current technological issues.

Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) January 29, 2004 --Half Price Computer Books is pleased to announce the winners of their winter 2003 essay scholarship awards. Open to all post secondary students, the essay topics were chosen to encourage critical thinking on current technological issues.

Congratulations to Simos D. Farrell from Lake Placid, Florida, and Kevin Kimball from Spokane, Washington. Both essays were on the topic of anti-spam legislation, albeit from different angles. Congratulations also to runner-up, Joshua Huebner of Henderson, Nevada, who wrote a charming (and very entertaining) tale on operating systems war. Their essays may be viewed at www.halfpricecomputerbooks.com/scholarship.php.

This was Half Price Computer Books second scholarship competition, and the 5,000+ essays submitted were of extremely high quality. Essays were judged on clarity of thought, the informative or entertainment factor, creativity, and traditional spelling and grammar.

The essays were everything from formal argumentative documents to snippets of fictional stories, from funny and personal to academic and thought-provoking," says scholarship administrator Jessica Cook. At the end, we can safely conclude that most of you hate spam, love your cellphones, and think Tux the Linux penguin is both cute and deadly!"

Headquartered in British Columbia, Canada, Half Price Computer Books is a leading provider of new technical and non-technical books for the North American market. Specializing in new computer books, the company carries over 10,000 different titles, ranging from beginners' guides to obscure programming languages, most sold for 50% off the retail price.
