ACCLAIMED SOLO DRAMA “kA” MAKES WEST COAST DEBUT

Hollywood, CA---The Black Op. announces the West Coast premiere of “kA” by acclaimed hyphenate (actor-director-writer) M. kA’RAMUU KUSH W. “kA,” a solo drama in the tradition of the Ancient Kemetik (Egyptian) funerary ritual known as a Heb Sed, will run for four weekends only beginning January 29th at The Complex Theater in Hollywood.

It also features the work of other acclaimed artists including the poetry of Jasiri Kafele, the choreography of Nathan Trice and the sound design of Sean O’Halloran.

In a manner unlike anything currently being done on the professional stage, “kA” takes a fresh approach on the solo performance medium by skillfully using the crafts of spoken word, choreographed movement, hip hop/Eastern inspired sound, adapted ancient Egyptian text and storytelling to revitalize ancient history and the story of this revolutionary Pharaoh, King Akhenaten. “kA” is what happens when the History Channel meets hip hop culture. “kA” recently received a workshop demonstration at the prestigious Aaron Davis Hall in New York and made its debut at the mecca of East Coast intellectual thought, The New School.

As a highlight of the 2002 Hip Hop Theatre Festival, Showbiz Weekly called Kush’s performance “fiercely experimental” and Black Masks Magazine has said “Kush’s striking good looks, demeanor and smoldering sensuality often draw comparisons to Denzel Washington.”

Native Detroiter kA'RAMUU KUSH cut his teeth in NY theatre doing plays Off B'way and Off Off B'way acting, directing and writing under the artistic mentorship of the legendary Woodie King, Jr. As an actor he is known for challenging lead roles such as "Malcolm X", "King Akhenaten", "Prince Morocco" and "Kalikula". On screen he can currently be seen in his award winning performance in 2003’s critically acclaimed indie film "five deep breaths" directed by Seith Mann. He has directed the works of some of today's hottest young writers and poets inclusive of Jessica Care Moore, Herb Donaldson, t.tara turk and Keith Josef Adkins.

He has served as writer on a number of works he has performed on stage namely, KALIKULA, his original adaptation of Albert Camus' Caligula. In addition to penning short screenplays, he is also serving as Editor on "save all my letters..." a collection of love letters and reflections by Tupac Amaru Shakur and his wife, Keisha Beverly Morris due out in 2004.
